Why Ayodhya is the most sacred city in Sanatan Dharma
The glory of Ayodhya comes not from any modern claim but from the most ancient Hindu scriptures.
पुरी द्वारावती चैव सप्तैता मोक्षदायिकाः॥ Ayodhyā Mathurā Māyā Kāśī Kānchī Avantikā, Purī Dvāravatī caiva saptaitā mokṣadāyikāḥ. Ayodhya, Mathura, Maya (Haridwar), Kashi, Kanchi, Avantika (Ujjain), Puri and Dwarka - these seven cities give liberation (moksha). Skanda Purana and Garuda Purana - Ayodhya is named first in the seven moksha-giving cities
Valmiki Ramayana, Bala Kanda (Sarga 5) describes Ayodhya as the capital of the prosperous Kosala kingdom on the banks of the Sarayu river: "Ayodhya nama nagari tatrasil lokavishruta" - the city of Ayodhya, famous throughout the world.
Atharvaveda 10.2.31 ("ashtachakra navadvara devanam puray Ayodhya") names Ayodhya as the city of the gods with eight wheels and nine doors, shining with imperishable treasure - the body of the Lord himself. This verse is central to the scriptural identification of Ayodhya as the divine birthplace.
Skanda Purana (Ayodhya Mahatmya) glorifies the city: "Even the dust of Ayodhya gives liberation. One who lives in Ayodhya for a single day has his sins destroyed."

How to Book Your Free Darshan Pass
- Visit online.srjbtkshetra.org and click Reserve your Free Passes
- Select your date and time slot (passes usually open about 15 days in advance)
- Fill in your name, mobile number and ID proof - download confirmation
- Carry a valid photo ID and the pass (on phone or printed) when you visit
Important: The Trust does not authorise any agent for bookings. Book only through the official website. All darshan and aarti passes are completely free. There is no paid VIP darshan - anyone selling a "VIP pass" is a fraud.
Dress code: No strict written rule, but wear decent, modest Indian clothing (kurta-pyjama, saree, salwar-kameez). Avoid shorts, sleeveless tops and leather items. See full VIP pass and dress code details on Page 2.
