जय माता दी - यात्रा पंजीकरण और सेवाएं
Yatra Parchi, helicopter, battery car, ropeway, Attka Aarti, Akhand Jyot - complete booking guide
This is Page 2 of the Vaishno Devi complete guide. It covers the mandatory Yatra Parchi registration, how to get your RFID card, what darshan looks like inside the Holy Cave, and how to book every Shrine Board service - helicopter, battery car, ropeway, Attka Aarti pass and Akhand Jyot. For the story of Mata Rani and the Aarti timings, read Page 1.
Yatra Parchi - The RFID Access Card (Mandatory)
यात्रा पर्ची - अनिवार्य पंजीकरण
Every pilgrim must register before beginning the trek from Katra. The Yatra Parchi is free.
Important: The Yatra Parchi (also called RFID Yatra Access Card) is mandatory for every pilgrim. Without it, you cannot proceed beyond the checkpoint at Banganga. Register online before you leave home - it saves time at the counter and the RFID card is collected at Katra. Time rule (since December 2025): begin the trek within 12 hours of receiving your RFID card and return to Katra within 24 hours. Registration is completely free. Do NOT buy Yatra Parchi from any agent or third party - the Shrine Board has not authorised any agent for this.
How to Register for Yatra Parchi Online
- Go to maavaishnodevi.org - the only official Shrine Board website. Under "Online Services," click "Yatra Registration."
- Register as a "New Devotee" with your mobile number. An OTP will be sent. Create your login ID and password.
- Fill in the details of all pilgrims in your group: name, age, ID proof type and number, mobile number. Carry the same ID proof for every group member on the actual yatra day.
- Select your preferred date. The Shrine Board releases online service quotas month-wise in advance (for example, the December 2026 quota opens on 1 October 2026 at 10:00 AM). Check the portal regularly during peak Navratri season - bookings fill fast.
- Download your Yatra Parchi (registration slip). This is a PDF - carry a printout or screenshot.
- At Katra, go to an RFID Yatra Card counter (Katra bus stand/Niharika area, Katra railway station and other Shrine Board counters). Show your Yatra Parchi and ID proof and collect the physical RFID card. Keep it with you throughout the yatra - it is scanned at checkpoints.
| Yatra Parchi Facts | Details |
|---|---|
| Cost | Completely free. No charge for Yatra Parchi or RFID card. |
| Who needs it | Every pilgrim above age 5 (approximately). Very young children may be exempt - confirm at the counter. |
| Insurance | Registered pilgrims are covered by the Shrine Board's accident insurance for mishaps on the yatra route. As per 2026 news reports, the cover has been raised to Rs.10 lakh per person (earlier Rs.5 lakh). Confirm current terms on the official portal. |
| Time limits | Start the trek within 12 hours of getting the RFID card and return to Katra within 24 hours (rule in force since December 2025). |
| Yatra Parchi vs Darshan slot | The Yatra Parchi is NOT a confirmed darshan time. It is permission to start the trek. Darshan at the Bhawan is on a first-come-first-serve basis after you complete the trek. |
| Walk-in registration | Also available at Shrine Board registration counters in Katra (near the bus stand/Niharika complex and at Katra railway station) and Jammu. Carry original ID proof. |
| Validity | Valid for the date you register. Cannot be used on a different date. |
Darshan at the Holy Cave - What to Expect
भवन में दर्शन
What the Holy Cave looks like inside and what happens during darshan
After completing the 12-13 km trek from Katra, you arrive at the Bhawan - the main shrine complex. Here is exactly what happens:
| Arriving at Bhawan | Deposit shoes and bags at the cloak room. Collect a blanket from the counter if it is cold (essential in winter). Wash hands and face at the washing area. Join the darshan queue. |
| The Holy Cave | The cave is natural - a narrow passage through the Trikuta rock. The passage was wide enough for ancient pilgrims. In recent years a new Bhawan structure has been built around and in front of the cave for safer access. The three Pindies are at the far end of the cave, visible as you approach. |
| The Three Pindies | The five-and-a-half-foot natural rock formation with three naturally distinct peaks: Mahakali (right), Mahalakshmi (centre) and Mahasaraswati (left). These are covered with flowers, chunri (red cloth) and offered prasad. Devotees bow their head, offer a prayer and move forward. |
| Photography | Strictly not permitted in front of the Pindies or inside the Holy Cave. Mobile phones must be kept in the pocket (not raised). CCTV is present throughout. |
| Prasad | The Shrine Board distributes prasad (dry coconut, mishri) after darshan. You can also purchase prasad from authorised counters at Bhawan. |
| Wait time | Off-season (Jan-Mar, Jul-Aug): 1 to 2 hours from arrival at Bhawan. Regular season: 3 to 5 hours. Navratri: 8 to 15 hours or more. Plan accordingly. |
| During Attka Aarti | Regular darshan is paused for ~2 hours during morning and evening Attka Aarti. If you arrive during aarti time, you can witness the aarti (with a pass) or wait at the Bhawan until regular darshan resumes. |
| After darshan | Mandatory: proceed to Bhairon Baba Temple (1.5 km uphill trek or a few minutes by ropeway from Bhawan). The yatra is not complete without Bhairon Baba darshan. |
Helicopter Service - Katra to Sanjhichhat
हेलीकॉप्टर सेवा
Best option for senior citizens, families with small children and first-time pilgrims short on time
The helicopter covers the Katra to Sanjhichhat leg of the yatra in about 8 minutes. From Sanjhichhat, you still need to walk or take a pony to the Bhawan (about 2.5-3.5 km, mostly downhill). The helicopter does not land at the Bhawan itself.
| Route | Katra Helipad to Sanjhichhat Helipad (and return). New route: Jammu to Panchi Helipad (check current availability at maavaishnodevi.org). |
| Duration | ~8 minutes one way. |
| Fare (one way) | Rs.2,320 per person (till 31 October 2026). Revised to Rs.2,700 from 1 November 2026. |
| Fare (two way) | Rs.4,640 per person (till 31 October 2026). Revised to Rs.5,400 from 1 November 2026. |
| Service hours | From 8:30 AM daily (weather permitting). No night helicopter service. |
| How to book | Online: maavaishnodevi.org (Shrine Board). Limited current-booking tickets may be available at the Katra helipad, but they sell out fast on Navratri and peak days. Do not buy from agents. |
| After helicopter | You land at Sanjhichhat (6,200 ft). From here, walk or take a pony to the Bhawan (5,200 ft) - roughly 2.5-3.5 km, mostly downhill. |
| Who benefits most | Senior citizens, persons with knee/joint issues, families with very young children, pilgrims short on time (can complete yatra in 4-6 hours total instead of 12-16 hours). |
Ropeway, Battery Cars, Ponies and Palkis
रोपवे, बैटरी कार, घोड़ा और पालकी
Every option for pilgrims who need assistance on the route
Route: Vaishno Devi Bhawan to Bhairon Ji Temple. Length: 375 metres. Capacity: 800 pilgrims per hour. Timings: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Fare: about Rs.100 per person (confirm at counter). Tickets: Available on the spot at Bhawan. The ropeway takes a few minutes vs the 1.5 km steep uphill trek on foot. Strongly recommended for senior citizens after the main darshan.
Battery-powered cars run on the New Track from Ardhkuwari (via Himkoti) to the Bhawan, saving the steepest part of the climb. Priority: Senior citizens and differently abled persons. Seats are limited - book at maavaishnodevi.org or at the counter at Katra/Ardhkuwari. Service may be suspended in bad weather.
Ponies (horses) are available on the Old Track only - NOT permitted on the new Tarakote Marg. They can be hired from Katra or from Ardhkuwari to the Bhawan and for the return journey. Book from authorised counters at Katra before starting the trek. Confirm the fare slip before you start - the rate is officially fixed by the Shrine Board. A pony is a good option for those who can ride but not walk the full distance.
A Palki is a traditional palanquin carried by 4 men. For those who cannot walk at all - due to age, illness or disability - the Palki is the most comfortable option. A Pithoo is a man who carries the devotee on his back (usually for shorter stretches on steep sections). Both are available from authorised counters at Katra and along the route. Book in advance on peak days.
