What Is Char Dham and How Do You Watch Live Darshan?

Char Dham means the "four abodes". These are four holy places in four directions of India: Badrinath in the north, Dwarka in the west, Jagannath Puri in the east and Rameshwaram in the south. It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya set up this pilgrimage circuit.

This page lets you take darshan from home for free. Tap "View Details" on a temple card to open its video. Not every temple has a live stream, so each temple is clearly marked. Dwarkadhish and Puri have live streams. Badrinath and Rameshwaram stream only on some days, so when they are not live we show their latest recording and tell you so.

Only some streams come from the temple itself. The name of the YouTube channel is shown under every video, so you always know who is streaming.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Char Dham?

Char Dham means the "four abodes". These are four holy places in the four directions of India: Badrinath in the north, Dwarka in the west, Jagannath Puri in the east and Rameshwaram in the south. Many Hindus try to visit all four at least once in a lifetime. Read more: Char Dham in India - The Four Sacred Hindu Pilgrimages.

Which Char Dham temples have live darshan?

When we checked on 4 October 2026, Dwarkadhish (Dwarka) and Jagannath Puri had a live stream. Badrinath and Rameshwaram were not live at that moment, so we show their latest recorded live stream. Rameshwaram's channel streams only a few times a month, mostly the counting of offerings, so we also add a link to a pre-recorded darshan video.

Is watching live darshan free?

Yes. All videos on this page are free to watch on YouTube. Dekho Dham does not charge anything and does not take any payment.

Why does the video player show a recording and not a live stream?

Temples do not stream all day. When a channel is not live, YouTube plays its most recent recorded stream. If the player shows LIVE, you are watching live darshan. If it shows an older date, the temple is not live at that moment. Tap "Check YouTube for Live Now" to look again.

Are these streams run by the temples?

Only some are. Dwarkadhish is on the temple's own official channel. The Rameshwaram channel looks like the temple's own, because it posts temple and HR&CE department events, but the temple website does not link to it. Badrinath and Puri are on independent YouTube channels. We show the channel name under every video. See also: Watch Char Dham Live Darshan from Home - YouTube Links.

Is there live darshan at Badrinath in winter?

No. The Badrinath temple is closed in winter because of heavy snow. It opens in April-May (Akshaya Tritiya) and closes around Bhai Dooj in October-November. During the closed months, the deity is worshipped at Joshimath. Read more: Badrinath - The Northern Dham of Char Dham.

Is Char Dham the same as Chhota Char Dham?

No. Char Dham has four temples across India: Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri and Rameshwaram. Chhota Char Dham (Little Char Dham) is a different trip in Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. Badrinath is part of both. Read more: Bada Char Dham vs Chota Char Dham - Key Differences.

In which order should I visit the Char Dham?

There is no strict rule. Many pilgrims go clockwise and start from Puri in the east: Puri, Rameshwaram, Dwarka and Badrinath. Others start from Badrinath. Plan around the weather, because Badrinath is open only from April-May to October-November. Read more: The Correct Order to Visit Char Dham.

What is the best time to visit the Char Dham?

Badrinath is best from May to June and September to October. Dwarka and Puri are best from October to March (Puri also has the Rath Yatra in June-July). Rameshwaram is best from October to April. Summer is very hot in Dwarka, Puri and Rameshwaram. Planning a trip? See Complete Budget Guide for Bada Char Dham Yatra and Char Dham Yatra FAQ - 15 Most Asked Questions Answered.
